Instructions

Charlotte Aeromodelers Club welcomes for membership all people that have an interest in flying radio controlled aircraft.  This includes those individuals that are already proficient pilots, beginners with absolutely no experience, and everyone in between.  Members must meet the following requirements:

  • For insurance liability reasons, you must be a member of AMA. To join, go here: https://www.modelaircraft.org/membership/enroll
  • For pilots with experience, you must be “certified” to fly solo by an existing club member.  In summary, this means you must be able to take off, land, and fly in a pattern within our flying boundaries
  • For beginners, you will be put in contact with Club Training officer who will train you to fly safely within our flying boundaries as well as foundational knowledge such as plane setup and flying courtsey/guidelines
  • Acknowledge that you have read and will abide by our club by-laws and handbook
  • To become a General Member or Junior Member you must be sponsored by a current member (the VP of the Club would serve as your sponsor if you do not know any club members).  Prospective members who do our “Try and Fly” program do not need to be sponsored. 
  • General Members or Junior Members need to be approved to join by a unanimous vote of the General Members at the next monthly membership meeting after application.   Prospective members who do our “Try and Fly” program do not need to be approved.

Club Membership Period

Our membership fiscal year is June 1- May 31st. New members will join for a full year at a rate of $400 for General Membership, $200 for Satellite membership (primary residence at least 75 miles from the CAM Field. The club treasurer will determine if a person qualifies for satellite membership.) and $50.00 for Junior Membership (18 and under).  New members joining after July 1 will pay a pro-rated amount based on the months remaining in the year. ($35.00/month General members, $17/month Satellite members, $5.00/month Junior members).  Prorating of annual dues does NOT apply to existing members (i.e., if you let your membership lapse on June 1 and decide to re-join again on Oct 1, you will be responsible for the full year’s dues).

We also offer a Try and Fly program for prospective new members who want to try the hobby out. The prospective member pays $100.00 and flies as a club member for 90 days. At the end of the 90 day Try and Fly period the prospect can elect to join or walk away. If the prospect elects to become a full member, they will pay the remaining dues for the existing flying year period.  Try and Fly members are subject to the same membership requirements as described above.

Note that to become a General, Satellite or a Junior Member, you must be sponsored by a current member and be approved by a unanimous vote of the General Membership at the next monthly club meeting after submitting your application.  If you pay your annual dues and are NOT approved for membership, it will be refunded to you.  

Membership Fees can be paid 3 ways:

Check – Amount owed will be $400.00 for General Membership, $200 for Satellite, $50 for Junior membership, and $100 for Try and Fly.  Check should be sent to the address below:

Venmo – Amount owed will be $410.00 for General Membership, $206 for Satellite, $54.00 for Junior membership, and $104.00 for Try and Fly.  To pay via Venmo, search for Charlotte AeroModelers and make the appropriate payment.

Zelle –     Amount owed will be $402.00 for General Membership, $202 for Satellite, $52.00 for Junior membership, and $102.00 for Try and Fly.  Using your bank app or website, add the club as a recipient as follows:

Note – For new members joining at the pro-rated fee per the schedule below, the Zelle/Venmo fees are already included in the amount shown.

Once Charlotte Aeromodelers has been added as a recipient it will already be configured for future transactions.
